COMPLEX VIKING STAR

INSTALLATION WORK LAUDED BY

CRUISE LINE, ARCHITECT AND DESIGN FIRM

NEWS

Viking Ocean Cruise’s debut ocean vessel — Viking Star — was christened in May of 2015. Trident’s cruise division played a significant role in the outfitting of this elegant ship, having built and finished its stunning infinity pool and nearby Jacuzzi, along with the fixed furniture, pool bar and pool grill. Trident also played an integral role in the construction of the exquisite Wintergarden, its beautiful fixed and decorative furniture, tea and coffee bar and bookcases. In addition, Trident built the Viking Star putting green, shuffleboard, bocce court, and sports deck bar and lounge, along with accompanying furniture.

Thoughtfully conceived by world-renowned nautical architects and designers, Viking Star is designed to deliver a unique onboard experience, set in tasteful, understated elegance. Viking Cruises Chairman Torstein Hagen, speaking of the Wintergarden’s intricate architectural dressing, said, “Such a complex structure on this scale was a real labor of love for the outfitter [Trident’s cruise division] to install.”

RATHBURN HONORED

WITH SNAME ADMIRAL LAND MEDAL

AWARD RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT

IN THE MARINE FIELD

OCTOBER 22, 2014

David R. Rathburn, vice chairman of Trident Maritime Systems, has been awarded the Vice Admiral ‘Jerry’ Land Medal from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), recognizing his outstanding accomplishment in the marine field. David has been a driving force in the marine industry for more than 34 years. He has played an integral role in more Navy and large ocean-going commercial new building programs than anybody else in the industry.

David joined Hopeman Brothers Marine Interiors in 1980 after previously working in public accounting. He became President in 1991 at the age of 33 after assignments in human resources, estimating, business development, program management and technical development. He has recently assumed the role of Vice-Chairman.

Under his leadership, the company grew to a 700 employee and $100 million operation.

Hopeman was the largest and most successful joiner company in the United States. In 2002, David and his wife Jayne created a new entity, US Joiner, which purchased substantially all of the Hopeman Brothers operating assets.

David has worked in almost every major shipyard in the country. He has a singular emphasis on customer focus and effective, efficient operations. His organizations have been leaders in the innovation of new, highly effective construction methods including unitized modularization of bathroom spaces, new joiner bulkhead materials and joiner installation methods. Under his leadership, Hopeman and then US Joiner reduced cycle times and improved first time quality. David led the successful integration of his operations into existing shipbuilding operations.

One of David’s most significant and meritorious areas of accomplishment is in worker safety. Nothing has a higher priority than the safety of his employees and his company leads the industry statistically.

Major programs that David led his team to success on include but are not limited to the Disney Cruise Ships built in Marghera, Italy, the Viking Serenade refurbishment in San Diego, CA, the LPD, MSC Sealift and TAO programs at Avondale and Ingalls Shipyards on the Gulf Coast, as well as the MSC TAKE and Sealift programs at NASSCO in San Diego, CA.

He has been a long time active member of the Shipbuilders Council of America, and is currently Chairman of the Allied Partners Committee representing over 90 supplier companies. David was also active in the American Shipbuilders Association and was the sole supplier member of JECKU, the annual Japanese, European, Chinese, Korean and United States shipbuilding senior executive annual industry summit for more than a decade.

David graduated from Grove City College with degrees in Accounting, Business Administration and Political Science. He is extremely active at his alma mater, having served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Grove City College for more than 11 years, overseeing a $62 million annual budget.
